Susan Weinkle, MD, FAAD

Susan H. Weinkle, MD is board-certified in Dermatology. She is Fellow of the American College of Mohs Surgery and a Diplomat of the American Board of Dermatology. Dr. Weinkle graduated summa cum laude from the University of Florida in 1974 and completed her residency in Dermatology at Stanford University Medical Center in 1982, where she held the position of Chief Resident. Dr. Weinkle has been in solo private practice since 1984, specializing in Mohs Surgery and Cosmetic Dermatology. She has held academic appointments at Stanford University Hospital, the University of California Irvine Medical Center and, most recently, at the University of South Florida.

Dr. Weinkle is affiliated with many professional organizations and societies. She has been on the Board of Directors and chaired numerous committees in organizations such as the American Academy of Dermatology, Dermatology Foundation, and Florida Society of Dermatology for Dermatologic Surgery. Dr. Weinkle has served as vice chairperson of the Dermatologic Foundation and has served on the board of trustees. She served as president of the Women’s Dermatologic Society (WDS) and as president of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), and President of the Florida Society of Dermatologic Surgery. She is currently an active member of the American Dermatological Association. WDS has also awarded Dr. Weinkle the prestigious Rose Hirschler Award and the Legacy Award. The Florida Society of Dermatology awarded her the Practitioner of the Year award in 2014. She has been voted one of the “Best Doctors” for the past 17 years. She has received the President’s Award four times from the ASDS and twice from the WDS. In 2017 she was honored by receiving the ASDS Stegman Award.

Dr. Weinkle is a medical editor for Drugs in Dermatology, she is on the editorial board of Practical Dermatology and Cosmetic Dermatology, and is also editor for Skin: The Journal of Cutaneous Medicine. She has published over 40 articles on skin carcinoma, surgical techniques, and cosmetic therapies. She frequently lectures on behalf of the American Academy of Dermatology and other leading dermatology societies, both nationally and internationally. Dr. Weinkle has served as course director of the live demonstration session at the annual AAD meeting for 14 consecutive years. She has also participated in numerous clinical trials.

Dr. Weinkle is passionate about all aspects of dermatology: mentoring, scientific innovation, and building enduring relationships within the dermatology community. She and her husband, Dana, an ophthalmologist, live in Bradenton, Florida. Their daughter, Allison is newly married and is a resident in Dermatology at the University of South Florida. Their son, Justin, is married and working in finance in New York City.
